John 19
Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip. 2 The soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a purple robe on him…When they saw him, the leading priests and Temple guards began shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” “Take him yourselves and crucify him,” Pilate said. “I find him not guilty.” The Jewish leaders replied, “By our law he ought to die because he called himself the Son of God.”…Then Pilate turned Jesus over to them to be crucified.

This excrutiatingly painful account is well known throughout the world. Not only is it recounted in the Four Gospels of the New Testament, it was described by the prophet, Isaiah, 700 years earlier in Isaiah Chapter 53. It begs the question, Why was so much suffering necessary? The prophet Isaiah explains it when He writes, “He carried the punishment we deserved so that we would reach peace with God.” The magnitude of His suffering puts each one of us face to face with the ugly worth and weight of our sin, the immeasurable cost of redemption for everyone and everything that was lost, and the unfathomable depths of Jesus’ love for you and me.
Pray this way: Lord, on this day as we ponder Your suffering on the cross, I thank You for every lash of the whip you took, every curse You carried, all of the mockery You endured and every drop of blood you spilled on my behalf. I stand amazed at the forgiveness I have received for all my faults and sins because of all the dying You did on that cross. Thank you for the peace I have with you and with others. In Your name, Amen!
In the name of Jesus, Amen!
Have a blessed day!
