Survival in the Desert

Survival in the Desert

Exodus 15:22-25a (NLT)

Then Moses led the people of Israel away from the Red Sea, and they moved out into the desert of Shur. They traveled in this desert for three days without finding any water. When they came to the oasis of Marah, the water was too bitter to drink. So they called the place Marah (which means “bitter”). Then the people complained and turned against Moses. “What are we going to drink?” they demanded. So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink.

Moses cried out to God in the middle of the desert, and his eyes were opened to see a tree, which was God’s solution to sweeten the water.

Today we, too, find ourselves in the middle of a desert, and neither our government leaders nor most of our fellow citizens have spiritual eyes to see the way out. As happened with Moses in that extreme moment, so also now God is waiting for all of us––leaders and citizens alike––to cry out to Him so that He can show each one of us the solution for transforming bitter into sweet.

You may want to pray like this: Father God, through your Word I understand that You hold the key to making it through a desert, and it is always close at hand. Open my eyes to see it as I cry out to You. Enlighten the eyes of our nation’s leaders as well. I ask this in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Have a blessed day!
