Genesis 4:8-12 (NLT)
One day Cain suggested to his brother, “Let’s go out into the fields.” And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him. Afterward the Lord asked Cain, “Where is your brother? Where is Abel?” “I don’t know,” Cain responded. “Am I my brother’s guardian?” But the Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground! Now you are cursed and banished from the ground, which has swallowed your brother’s blood. No longer will the ground yield good crops for you, no matter how hard you work! From now on you will be a homeless wanderer on the earth.”

This well-known story of the children of Adam and Eve teaches us a spiritual truth that remains in force for all time. Whether it is a murder, an abortion, psychological or physical abuse, not “keeping” your brother has enormous consequences. The blood of that sin cries out to God for justice. Blessings are lost and even worse, you open a door for a curse to come upon your family and your well-being. No matter how hard you try, your “crops” will come at a higher price.
But God, in his mercy, has prepared a way out: repentance and forgiveness made possible by the Lord Jesus who bore all our sins and iniquities on the cross. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
Pray like this: Father God, by Your Word I understand that You can forgive even the most terrible sin ever committed. By faith, I repent of everything wrong that I have done. I nail my sins and unrighteous deeds on the cross that Jesus bore. I receive the life and blessing that He has provided for me, and it is in His name I pray, Amen!
