Exodus 12:25-27 (NLT)
When you enter the land the Lord has promised to give you, you will continue to observe this ceremony. Then your children will ask, ‘What does this ceremony mean?’ And you will reply, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, for he passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt. And though he struck the Egyptians, he spared our families.’” When Moses had finished speaking, all the people bowed down to the ground and worshiped.

When the children of Israel were still captive in Egypt, God dealt severely with Pharaoh and sent an angel of death that struck the firstborn of every household. At that time, He instructed Moses to give orders for each Israelite family to kill a lamb and with its blood mark the doorposts and window frames of their houses. Thus God “passed over” their sins and set them free from their bondage in Egypt. Now they were about to enter the Promised Land and God told them to keep on observing this “Passover” ceremony.
2000 years ago, another Lamb was slain when Jesus shed His blood for you so that today you can mark your life with His blood. If you do, God will “pass over” your sins and, in spite of your wrongdoing, put His blessing in your home.
The holiday we know as Easter is actually the celebration of the Passover. As you celebrate it, tell your children what being “passed over” really means. Receive Jesus as the Lamb of God who by His blood takes away your sin and frees you from all that is enslaving you—because He loves you that much. You have definitely not been “passed up!”
Pray this way: Lord, I believe that the blood of Jesus cleanses me from all sin and frees me from its tremendous consequences. I will celebrate this Easter for what it really means, in deep gratitude to his sacrifice for me. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
Have a blessed day!
