Pass the Salt, Please

Pass the Salt, Please

Matthew 5:13-16 (NLT)

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

These words of Jesus reveal His purpose for your life. When you open your heart to receive Him as your Savior, you become an instrument in His hand to change the world around you. That’s what salt and light do.

Salt does not give flavor to itself, but it flavors every meal to which it is added. It also serves as a preservative to keep food from spoiling.

Light has a similar effect. When we turn on a light, darkness disappears. Not only can we see better, but those around us can also see what they couldn’t se before.

You were not made to live just for yourself. You were designed by God to serve others, by being salt that gives life “flavor” and a future, and by being light that will help others find their way, and even better, find God’s way. A friend, a relative, a neighbor, a colleague at work or schoolmate is waiting for what God put into your life.

Come alongside someone, without personal interest. Listen to him or her to discover what need he or she might need. Extend your hand to lift up the fallen and help the needy, visit and accompany the sick, minister to them in the name of Jesus, and God will also minister something new to you!

Pray like this: Father God, I recognize that I have focused on my own needs without being concerned enough about others. So I ask You now to help me see how to serve others and in so doing have a life full of purpose and blessing. In the name of Jesus, Amen!

Have a blessed day!
