Fishing

Fishing

John 21:3-6 (NLT)

Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” They all said, “We’ll come, too.” So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was. He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.

We are so prone to doing things our way, without the supernatural intervention of Jesus, when the “fishing” is scarce—and even when it is plentiful—because we somehow think we are expert “fishermen.” We throw the “net” on the left, in the opposite direction of the blessing that God has in store, because the “fish” He has prepared for us are on the “right.” The result is that our efforts do not reach their full potential and often are simply unproductive. As you begin this day, seek God’s guidance, listen carefully for His voice. If your “night of fishing” has been unproductive or short of its full potential, know that He is “standing on the shore” within earshot and has some counsel for you. Do as He says by faith, and surely you, too, will not be able to get the “catch” into your boat. It will surpass your expectations. Pray aloud this way: Father God, forgive me for doing things my way. Thank you for always being close by, even when I come up short. Teach me to hear Your voice so that I cast my nets on the side of Your full blessing. In the name of Jesus, Amen! Have a blessed Day!
