Judges 6:1-6 (NLT)
The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight. So the Lord handed them over to the Midianites for seven years. The Midianites were so cruel that the Israelites made hiding places for themselves in the mountains, caves, and strongholds. Whenever the Israelites planted their crops, marauders from Midian, Amalek, and the people of the east would attack Israel, camping in the land and destroying crops as far away as Gaza. They left the Israelites with nothing to eat, taking all the sheep, goats, cattle, and donkeys. These enemy hordes, coming with their livestock and tents, were as thick as locusts; they arrived on droves of camels too numerous to count. And they stayed until the land was stripped bare. So Israel was reduced to starvation by the Midianites. Then the Israelites cried out to the Lord for help.

What happened to an entire nation can also happen to a person when he or she does evil in the eyes of God. The gate is thrown open to same “marauders” as the Israelites faced—oppression, anguish, scarcity and destruction of everything they had worked for.
But the Bible tells us that when the people cried out to God, He heard their cry, freed them from that bondage and gave them 40 years of peace and prosperity (Judges 8:28), and in the very same way, you can get out from under your oppression. Cry out to God, and then be careful to faithfully follow His instructions.
Pray this way: Lord, I confess that I have ignored Your commandments. I ask Your forgiveness for walking away from You, because by walking away from You, I have let the enemy in. I ask You to not only deliver me but also to deliver my nation from all evil and from everything that is robbing us of Your presence and blessing. Prosper us again, I plead, in the Name of Jesus, Amen!
