A Sling and a Stone

A Sling and a Stone

1 Samuel 17:39-49 (NLT)

David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. “I can’t go in these,” he protested to Saul. “I’m not used to them.” So David took them off again. He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd’s bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the Philistine…As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him. Reaching into his shepherd’s bag and taking out a stone, he hurled it with his sling and hit the Philistine in the forehead. The stone sank in, and Goliath stumbled and fell face down on the ground.

It did not take an army or sophisticated weaponry to end the harassment of an entire enemy nation. A stone in the hands of a sheepherder and his trust in God were enough.

In the same way, when you ask God for help to overcome gigantic challenges, do not be limited by the advice of those who are accustomed to conventional strategies and weapons.

Don’t devalue your God-given abilities and experiences with Him. Empowered by your trust in the Lord, with even just a “stone” you will overcome the “giant” in front of you!

Pray this: Lord, I begin my activities today knowing that what I have in my hands and the trust I have placed in You are enough to have a day filled with victory. In the name of Jesus, Amen!

Have a blessed day!
