A Power Encounter with Fear

A Power Encounter with Fear

Acts 16:25-32 (NLT)

Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! The jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open. He assumed the prisoners had escaped, so he drew his sword to kill himself. But Paul shouted to him, “Stop! Don’t kill yourself! We are all here!” The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.” And they shared the word of the Lord with him and with all who lived in his household.

An earthquake shook the city of Philippi, including the jailhouse. The prisoners were gripped with fear because of the earthquake. The jailer was gripped with fear because Rome’s punishment for lost prisoners was death. But Paul and Silas had engaged all their fellow prisoners in worship, and as a result, none of them took flight. There was more calm in the prison than in the entire city! In the end, it was Paul that saved the jailer from his own demise, and that’s when he asked the apostle what he needed to do to know that kind of salvation.

Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you and your household can receive the very same thing the Philippian jailer received. Then you can even help others to change their lives.

You may want to pray something like this: Father God, I believe in Your power to save, not only from calamity in this life, but also to grant eternal life for all who put their trust in You. According to this scripture, I call on You to save me and my entire household today and make us instruments of salvation for all those around us. I ask this in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Have a blessed day!
