A Lesson From The “Second Day”

A Lesson From The “Second Day”

John 16:20-22 (NLT)

I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn over what is going to happen to me, but the world will rejoice. You will grieve, but your grief will suddenly turn to wonderful joy. It will be like a woman suffering the pains of labor. When her child is born, her anguish gives way to joy because she has brought a new baby into the world. So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.

The day after Jesus’ death, this word was fulfilled. His followers were distraught. They believed that everything was over, they had been left defenseless in the face of certain impending persecution and they did not know what to do.

Any and every day can be a day of uncertainty, of not knowing what to do, of not finding the right solutions, of thinking that all is lost––the game is over. In between the first day––the evil day, and the third day––the day of victory that God promises, there is often a “second day”––usually a very long day––in which you cannot see things clearly. The “second day” may last for a while, but hold on to the promises, believe God, and your present pain will be transformed into joy. That is a promise from God.

You may want to pray something like this: Father God, I cling to this promise! Though I am living a time of testing and pain, I believe in Your Word and I declare that this sorrow will turn into joy because You will rise again. You will never leave me. in the name of Jesus, Amen!

Have a blessed day!
